Sustainability

Climate change is the most significant challenge facing our generation and we all have a responsibility to help protect the world around us. At Lougher, we are committed to climate protection, and have a number of key business practices that support this initiative.

Eco-Conscious Packaging

Lougher Contemporary is dedicated to eco-conscious packaging practices, utilising recyclable and sustainable materials whenever possible. We opt for starch-based packing peanuts that dissolve harmlessly in water, reducing waste and environmental impact. The majority of our packaging for shipping unframed prints is crafted from cardboard, a renewable and easily recyclable resource. This eco-friendly choice not only ensures the safety of artworks during transit but also aligns with our ethos of minimising our ecological footprint.

DHL GoGreen

For all artworks packed in-house and shipped with DHL, Lougher opts to GoGreen, paying a surcharge to offset the carbon emission for the shipment.

By opting in to DHL’s GoGreen service, Lougher supports climate protection projects around the world, contributing to carbon reduction and accomplishing a lot more: the projects help to improve the health and quality of life of local people in less developed countries, support technology transfer, employment creation and additional income, enable a green energy supply, and foster the protection of local environments.

Forests Without Frontiers

With a commitment to climate protection, Lougher Contemporary announced a new partnership with Forests Without Frontiers (‘FWF’) in June 2022.

FWF’s mission is to plant and protect trees for future generations whilst preserving the forests, the people and wildlife they nurture. A UK-based non-profit organisation, FWF is dedicated to planting trees and reforesting degraded landscapes with support from a network from the arts industry, as well as businesses and individuals working towards becoming climate positive.

Forests are the lungs of our earth and, with deforestation around the world at record levels and the climate in meltdown, there has never been a more important time to plant and protect trees. For every artwork sold by Lougher Contemporary, regardless of whether it’s collected from us here in Bristol or shipped to the buyer, we will plant 3 trees via our partners, Forests Without Frontiers.

Packing

We take care to find packing materials that are kinder to the planet. Our packing peanuts are made from starch!

Logistics

For all artworks packed in-house, we opt in to DHL GoGreen, paying a surcharge to offset the carbon emission for the shipment.

Suppliers

We aim to work with suppliers who share our support of climate protection.
