About the job
We are seeking an Art Handler to provide specialist art handling, packing and logistics support for 8 hours per week, in our Bristol based office. This is a self-employed contractor engagement and a unique opportunity to work with significant contemporary artworks, applying museum standard techniques in a dynamic online gallery environment. This isn’t just moving boxes. You’ll be mastering museum – standard packing techniques, creating detailed condition reports, photographing and archiving artworks, supporting the life cycle of high value pieces from acquisition to delivery.
It’s an ideal opportunity for someone who thrives working autonomously and looking to build hands‑on experience within the art industry.
Scope of service
The contractor may be asked to provide services, including, but not limited to:
• Packing high value artworks for domestic and international transit
• Undertaking artwork movements between office, storage facility and suppliers, using own vehicle
• Conducting thorough condition checks and creating detailed documentation
• Cataloguing new acquisitions within our internal system, including catalogue raisonné references
• Photographing works for inventory and condition purposes
• Maintaining stock locations and movement records
• Repacking works for storage and preparing items for shipment or courier collection
• Coordinating with specialist art suppliers and logistics partners
• Upholding rigorous health and safety standards
• Managing packing materials and supplies
• Working independently and troubleshooting issues that arise during handling or transit
Requirements
• Full UK driving licence and access to own insured vehicle
• Physical capability for regular manual handling (lifting and moving)
• Meticulous attention to detail and strong organisational skills
• Professional and discreet when representing the gallery
• Responsible for own tax, insurance and business obligations
• Right to work in UK
